Nigerian Election Officials Sentenced for Bribery

Two Nigerian election officials were sentenced Friday for accepting bribes from the former oil minister to rig the 2015 election.

Christian Nwosu and Tijani Bashir were convicted of accepting 264.8 million naira from former Minister of Petroleum Resources and head of OPEC Diezani Alison-Madueke in exchange for election tampering. Alison-Madueke has been investigated for money laundering and bribery in Nigeria and abroad.

Nwosu and Bashir have each been sentenced to seven years in prison.
