FBI prosecutors requested Tuesday that former Reading Mayor Vaughn Spencer receive a prison sentence of 10-12 years for bribery and fraud.
Spencer was convicted on August 30, 2018 of conspiracy, bribery and honest services fraud. The former mayor was engaged in a scheme to reward public works contracts to members of engineering firms who contributed to his campaign. He also was convicted of making donations to the campaign of the wife of the city council’s president in exchange for the president’s support of a bill repealing local campaign contribution limits.
Spencer’s sentencing is scheduled for April 24, 2019.
